BOTOX® injections are an effective treatment for crow’s feet around the eyes, deep frown lines between the eyes and expression lines on the forehead. BOTOX® is a trademark name for botulinum toxin, a chemical produced by the bacteria clostridium botulinum. Extremely small doses of this substance are injected into tiny muscles that control facial expressions causing localized paralysis of those muscles. The treated areas remain smooth and unwrinkled while untreated facial muscles contract in a normal facial expression. Results most generally become apparent within a week of treatment. A series of injections are usually required to reach maximum results. Initial injections last approximately three to six months and subsequent injections usually have longer lasting results.
