Dr. Martin Sands is the founder of Dermatology Associates, P.C. and has been in private practice since 1976, serving the Waterloo/Cedar Falls and surrounding communities since 1986. Dr. Sands is a graduate of the University Of Iowa College Of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Sands is interested in all aspects of medical, surgical and cosmetic Dermatology and takes a special interest in researching cutting-edge technologies and incorporating them into the practice.

Dr. Bryan Sands received his medical degree from Des Moines University, College of Health Sciences. He completed his internship and dermatology residency at Dallas-Fort Worth Medical center in Grand Prairie, Texas. In 1997, he joined his father, Dr. Martin Sands, in private practice at Dermatology Associates. He has also served as a clinical adjunct faculty member for Des Moines University. Dr. Sands has a special interest in the surgical aspects of dermatology and utilizing computer-based technology to keep the practice in the forefront of new systems and development.

Meg Heatley joined Dermatology Associates in 2001 bringing with her 30 years of combined experience as both a Registered Nurse and as a Family Practice Physician Assistant. To further enhance her skills in Dermatology, Meg returned to the academic world and completed a Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies with a specialization in Dermatology in 2007. Meg is very active with patient educational program development and patient and community education.

Angela Buttjer joined Dermatology Associates in 2002 after obtaining her degree from the Des Moines University, College of Health Sciences. In 2011 she achieved the highest honor available from the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, the SDPA Diplomat Status recognition. Recognizing the challenges of balancing health care with other responsibilities, Angela has a special interest in working closely with families to tailor a treatment schedule to meet their needs.

Annette Geary joined Dermatology Associates in 2005. Her previous experience includes working as a Critical Care RN and as an ENT Nurse Practitioner. Annette devotes a large amount of time to the planning and treatment of our patients with psoriasis including the incorporation of Biologic Medications and UVB light therapy.

Niki Stall joined Dermatology Associates in 2009 after completing her education and training and becoming a Nurse Practitioner. She comes with a 5+ year background as a surgical intensive care nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. After spending a year working closely with Dr. Martin and Dr. Bryan Sands completing an intensive Dermatology education and training program, Niki works with patients of all ages and conditions. She has a special interest in cosmetic dermatology and continues to obtain specialized education and training at the regional and national level.
