Dr. Martin Sands is the founder of Dermatology Associates, P.C. and has been in private practice since 1976, serving Waterloo/Cedar Falls and surrounding communities since 1986. Dr. Sands is a graduate of the University of Iowa’s School of Medicine where he also completed his residency and served in a teaching capacity. Dr. Sands is interested in all aspects of Dermatology and has a special interest in researching cutting-edge technologies and incorporating them into the practice.

Dr. Bryan Sands received his medical degree from Des Moines University, College of Health Sciences. He completed his internship and dermatology residency at Dallas-Fort Worth Medical center in Grand Prairie, Texas. In 1997, he joined his father, Dr. Martin Sands, in private practice at Dermatology Associates. Dr. Sands has a special interest in the surgical aspects of dermatology and utilizing computer-based technology to keep the practice in the forefront of new systems and development.

Meg Heatley joined Dermatology Associates in 2001 bringing with her 30 years of combined experience as both a Registered Nurse and as a Family Practice Physician Assistant. To further enhance her skills in Dermatology, Meg has returned to the academic world and is working toward a Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies with an emphasis in Dermatology. Meg is active with community education and participating in skin cancer screenings.

Angela Buttjer joined Dermatology Associates in 2002 after obtaining her degree from the Des Moines University, College of Health Sciences. Recognizing the challenges of balancing health care with other responsibilities, Angela has a special interest in working closely with families to tailor a treatment schedule to meet their needs. Angela is active with community education and participates in skin cancer screenings.

Annette Geary joined Dermatology Associates in 2005. Her previous experience includes working as a Critical Care RN and as an ENT Nurse Practitioner. Annette devotes a substantial amount of her time to the planning and treatment of our psoriatic patients including the incorporation of our excimer laser technology.
